FOAM vs. FIBERGLASS
R-for-R all insulation is not created equal!
The
R-Value of Biobond insulation is R-13, the same as fiber glass insulation.
But, foam expands to fill every crack and crevice
forming a complete seal from all air infiltration. Fiberglass batts,
on the other hand, are cut around the electrical and duct work, which
leaves small openings for air infiltration.
An experienced, thermographic inspector stated in a letter to Home
Energy Magazine:
"Of the hundreds of buildings I have inspected with infrared
thermography I have yet to see even one fiber glass job that doesn't
suffer some reduced thermal performance. Often the degradation is substantial,
especially under windy conditions."
Foam, unlike fiberglass batts, resist mold growth. Recently
many homeowners are suffering from illnesses claimed by toxic mold growing
behind their walls.
